Who will be Ghana's first PUP? (Private Ultralight Pilot)

Five young people came to visit as we were undergoing final preparations for a flight test programme on 9G-ZAA the first X-Air F to be assembled in Ghana. This is what they had to say.....

Clockwise from back left: (Click on the name to see what they will look like as pilots!)

Joyce: I enjoyed sitting in the aircraft and it made me feel great. I would be happy to learn how to fly, so that I can learn new things.

Sitsofe: It was a nice experience to visit a rural airfield and sit in a real airplane. It looks like a real big toy! I really want to learn to fly, so that I can be like a bird in the sky.

Eyram: Today I got to know that flying was a lot easier than I had thought. My friend who knew about this project had not been exaggerating at all - we really do have the ability to build airplanes in Ghana – and learn to fly them. I think everybody should learn to fly.

Makafui: I thought sitting in the aircraft was real awesome. I now really want to learn how to fly and look forward to getting my Ghana Private Ultralight Pilot's Licence – perhaps to be the first Ghana PUP! I never thought we would have this sort of opportunity brought to our doorstep in Ghana.

Henry: It was an experience that everyone should try having. There is nothing like flying. I am really happy to have had such an experience as sitting in this aircraft – I now cannot wait for the opportunity to fly. It will be a dream come true.

Stephane Durandiere and Jonathan Porter who showed them around the aircraft were highly impressed at the interest, politeness and enthusiasm these outstanding examples of West African youth demonstrated. It was a pity that they could not go flying on the day of their visit - consequently they have been invited back to give us their impression of Ultralight flight. We hope to update you with images and comments from their first flights in the coming weeks.
