Recent Solos and other achievements at WAASPS
Patricia Mawuli is our lead engineer under training in the Workshops and she also excels in her flying. On the 15th May 2009 Patricia made her first solo flight and took to the skies in 9G ZAA (one of our primary trainers and everybody favorite airplane at Kpong)! Patricia is part way through her engineers apprenticeship and also plans to become a part time flying instructor for the national licence. She should be on the instructor programme by the end of the year - taking trial flights around the Krobo area. Patricia (or Capt Pat as she gets called now!) hopes to gain her PUP licence before her 21st birthday! We see no reason why she cannot achieve this! 15/05/09 |

Patricia knows how much the engine matters and is very competent at all stages of servicing the Rotax - in fact we caught her telling the engine how much she loved it and blowing it a kiss - now that is commitment! I guess you can say 'We love Rotax' at WAASPS! |

A few days later on the 22nd of May 2009 a young man by the name of Lordson Segbefia also solo 'ed and realized that 'he has what it takes' on his path towards a career as a pilot. Lordson plans to fly initially under the PUP/UAS/UIE licence for aerial dispersal, banner towing and perhaps as an instructor - and then later go on to airlines... but there is a good chance that he will be under great demand with the national licence based on the growth in the sector and the region! 22/05/09 |

We also enjoy a number of ex-pat pilots and student pilots who bring different facets to the family environment we enjoy at Kpong - and here you can see one of our Pilots celebrating his first solo (17 May 2009) with his wife and son, having learned to fly in Ghana and being somebody who really recognizes the benefits of this sector of aviation. 17-05-09 |

The 14 February will never be the same again. For some it is valentines day, for others it is chocolate day, but for Paul Joosten it will always be 'my first solo' day since in 2010 it changed his smile to become even bigger! Paul has worked long and hard to achieve this moment, and it gave us all joy to see his beaming smile when he landed with just a little bounce on runway 19 (he prefers 01). Congratulations to Paul and a big thank you to him for his constant good humour as he shouts out 'Fly the plane, fly the plane, fly the plane'... Read the article written on the 13th February (the night before Paul's solo), and to be printed on the 22 February 2010in the BFT here... 14 - 02 -2010 |
The touchdown, captured forever,
thanks to digital cameras and the internet! Well done Paul, from all
of us at WAASPS and MoM! Paul and his instructor, both as thrilled with the Solo that marks an important step along the way to getting a pilots licence! Capt Yaw says 'I think this is the best solo so far that I have had the privilege and honour to enable, thank you Paul!'. |
